Eighth Inning Rally Propels Jefferson to a 12-11 Win over Griffins

An eighth inning rally from host Jefferson University gave the Rams a 12-11 win over the Chestnut Hill College baseball team Tuesday afternoon at Alumni field in Philadelphia.

The Griffins fall to 11-12 overall and 8-7 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  Jefferson is now 11-11 overall and 10-5 in league play.

Rich Bonino suffered his first loss of the season, pitching the final three innings and giving up five runs on eight hits.   Aiden Myers had three hits and drove in a pair of runs.  Wyatt Spinks had two hits and three RBI.  Kenyon Motley, Michael Pascoe and Angus Moore also had two hits apiece.

Leading 11-8 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Bonino  gave up a leadoff single and quickly cleared the base paths  inducing a double play to the next batter, leaving the Griffins one out away from moving on to the ninth inning.  Bonino then gave up a single, a walk and hit a batter to load the bases for Colin Wilson who took a 2-2 pitch and put it over the left field fence for a grand slam and a 12-11 Jefferson lead.

Aiden Barbour came in for Jefferson and pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn the save for Cole Roschel who got the win.

In the opening inning, Motley singled, stole two bases  and scored on Pascoe's sacrifice fly for the first Griffins run.  Myers followed with a single and then came around to score on a single from Jackson Shollenberger for a 2-0 Chestnut Hill lead.

Two home runs by the Rams in the bottom of the first inning puts the hosts on top 4-2 before the Griffins got on e back in the top half of the second on Spinks' RBI single scoring Dylan Broderick.

Jefferson hit two more home runs in the bottom of the second to take a 6-3 lead.

Motley delivered a two run single in the fourth and then scored on a groundout off the bat of Spinks to tie the game at 6-6.

A triple and a Griffins error in the bottom of the fourth put Jefferson back on top 7-6.

The Griffins scored three times in the sixth inning to take a 9-7 lead.  Spinks plated a run with an infield groundout followed by Pascoe and Myers delivering back-to-back  RBI singles.

Jefferson's fifth home run of the game in the bottom half of the sixth made it a one run contest, 9-8.

In the top of the eighth, Myers doubled to score Luke Sosa and two batters later Shollenberger hit a sacrifice fly to score Pascoe who had singled just before Myers' double, giving the Griffins an 11-9 lead before the Rams big rally in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The baseball team returns to action on Thursday, April 2,m 2026 when they host Felician University at Hostelley Field for a doubleheader.  First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
