Matthew Sharkey hit a grand slam home run and Michael Pascoe added a home run as part of a six-run eighth inning as the Chestnut Hill College baseball team out-slugged Goldey Beacom College 16-12 to complete a sweep of the regular season series against the Lightning Sunday afternoon at Hostelley Field in Noth Wales, Pennsylvania.
The series sweep marked the first time in program history that Chestnut Hill  swept the season series against the Lightning. The Griffins improve to 19-17 overall and 16-11 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Lightning, ranked #5 in the most recent National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll fall to 26-17 overall and 19-8 in league play.
Sharkey also added an RBI double to go along with his fourth-inning grand slam home run, giving him five RBI on the afternoon as he finished the day with four hits. Pascoe's solo home run in the eighth was part of a three-hit effort nu the junior infielder. Nicholas Shiffler added two doubles while Wyatt Spinks and Dylan Broderick had two hits apiece.
Joe Kelly earned the win in relief, pitching the final two innings, giving up one run on one hit.
The Lightning jumped out to an early 7-1 lead after a five run third inning.  Sharkey's RBI double made in 7-2 heading into the fourth where the Griffins plated eight runs to take a 10-7 lead.
The inning was highlighted by Sharkey's long home run over the centerfield fence, clearing the bases and putting the Griffins ahead. Aiden Myers walked in a run prior to Sharkey's at-bat, pulling the griffins within one 7-6. Kenyon Motley and Anthony Jakeman also had RBI singles earlier in the inning.
A pair of two-run home runs by the Lightning in the sixth and seventh innings put the visitors back ahead 11-10. GBC added a solo home run in the eight to lead 12-10.
Pascoe led off the bottom of the eighth with home run to pull CHC back within one 12-11. Three batters later, Shiffler doubled to score Myers to tie the game. Broderick followed with an RBI single and Shiffler then scored on a wild pitch. Will Brennan then delivered a triple to centerfield to score Broderick and Bobby Sabatino, running for Brennan , scored on a wild pitch to round out the scoring.Â
Kelly retired the Lightning in order in the ninth to secure the win.
The baseball team returns to action on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 when they travel to play Caldwell University  in northern New Jersey. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 12:00 p.m.
