Seven different players recorded hits as the Chestnut Hill College Baseball team salvaged a split with Caldwell University with a 10-0 win in game two of their doubleheader and clinched a spot in the upcoming conference tournament.
The Griffins lost the opener 12-2. With the split, the Griffins are now 20-18 overall and 17-12 in Central Atlantic collegiate conference games. The Cougars fall to 14-24 overall and 11-18 in league play.
Wyatt Spinks, Michael Pascoe and Nicholas Shiffler had two hits apiece. Pascoe and Aiden Myers drove in three runs while Matthew Sharkey drove in two.
Brady Gustitus earned the win in relief of Dylan Broderick, pitching 1.1 innings and retiring every batter he faced.
Spinks drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the third to open the scoring and Pascoe followed with a two-run single to give the Griffins a 3-0 lead.
Shiffler led off the fourth inning with a solo home run. Â Pascoe later drew a bases loaded walk for the fifth CHC run. Myers and Sharkey followed with back-to-back two-run singles to increase the Griffins lead to 9-0.
Myers infield groundout in the sixth inning plated the final Chestnut Hill run. Rich Bonino pitched the final two innings, allowing just two hits and no runs.
In the opener, the Cougars scored seven runs off starter Luke Schweiker in the first 3.1 innings, en route to a 12-2 win.
Schweiker allowed eight hits and six earned runs and took the loss. Spinks had three of the Griffins seven hits in the opener.
The Griffins two runs came in the top of the seventh inning.  Trailing 9-0, William Brennan was hit by a pitch and Anthony Jakeman followed with a single. The two runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch and Spinks followed with an infield single as Brennan scored and Jakeman followed after a bad throw by the Caldwell second baseman.
The Cougars added two runs in the seventh and another in the eighth to round out the scoring.
The baseball team returns to action on Friday, April 24, 2026 when they host the University of Bridgeport for a doubleheader at Hostelley Field. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
