Martin Nets Six Goals as Griffins Score Big Win over Felician to Close out Regular Season

Samantha Martin scored six goals while Elizabeth Deal added five as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Lacrosse team closed out the regular season with a 19-6 win over Felician University at Tryon field in Rutherford, new jersey Saturday night.

The Griffins finish the regular season with an 8-6 overall record and a 4-5 record in Central Atlantic Collegiate conference play.  The team has also qualified for the CACC Championship Tournament for the first time since the 2019 season.  The will be the #6 seed and travel to face #3 seed Wilmington University on Tuesday, April 26 at 3:30 p.m.  The Golden Falcons finish the season at 1-15 overall and 0-10 in league contests.

Martin scored four of her six goals in the first half, with her first two scores coming when the Griffins were a man-up.  She added two more in the fourth to complete the "sock-trick".  The freshman midfielder also added two assists to finish the game with a career-high eight points.

Deal's five goals were a career high for the graduate student midfield/defender.  Four of her five goals came in the second half.  Kendall Gayton and Nicole George added two goals apiece.  Leslie Barreto scored her first collegiate goal while Bryce Westervelt added a goal and two assists.

Martin and Alli Kamulda led the team with four ground balls apiece while Ryley Geary added three.  Deal and Maddie Brazukas had two caused turnovers apiece to lead the team.  Gayton won four draw controls while Deal and Martin had three apiece.

Mel Amador made ten saves in goal.  She now has 647 career saves and is the NCAA active leader for Division II in this category.

The Golden Falcons struck first in the opening quarter but Martin and George both added man-up goals in a 40-second span to put the Griffins ahead 2-1.  Westervelt assisted on George's goal.  Gayton and Deal followed with unassisted goals and Martin added her second man-up score with two minutes left in the first quarter to push the lead to 5-1.

Geary scored a man-up goal a minute into the second quarter to make the score 6-2.  Felician threatened with two straight goals to close within two, 6-4  before the Griffins outscored the Golden Falcons 4-1 over the final ten minutes of the period to take a 10-5 lead at halftime.  Martin had two unassisted goals while Gen Washington-Vasquez added one.  Gayton also had a man-up score, CHC's fifth man-up goal of the game.

Deal scored three goals within a seven minute span in the third quarter and George added her second goal within that same time frame as the Griffins expanded their lead to 14-5.  Martin and Westervelt each recorded an assist on one of the Deal goals.  Westervelt rounded out the scoring in the third quarter with an unassisted goal with 5:55 left in the period to make the score 15-5.

Martin scored her fifth goal with 13:33 left in the game and added her sixth at the 8:02 mark, making the score 17-6.  Deal had her fifth goal with 3:19 left  and Barreto notched her first collegiate goal with just 23 seconds remaining after taking a pass from Martin.

The women's lacrosse team opens CACC Tournament play on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 traveling to face #3 seed Wilmington.  First draw is set for 3:30 p.m.
