The Chestnut Hill College Women's Tennis Team rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat five-time Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champion Wilmington University Tuesday afternoon 4-3 at the Delcastle Tennis Center in New Castle, Delaware.

The Griffins improve to 2-0 on the season and in conference play.  The Wildcats fall to 2-1 overall and in conference play.  It is Chestnut Hill's first win over the Wildcats since the 2019 season and just their second win in 17 matches in program history.

After dropping the doubles points and the #2 and #3 singles matches, the Griffins found themselves in a 3-0 deficit as the remaining four singles matches progressed. Those four matches all went on to a third set as the Griffins began their comeback towards victory.

The final result came down to the final singles match with Tia Kaukenas clinching the match with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Ines Oliveira at #5 singles.

Prior to Kaukenas clinching though, the Griffins had to win every remaining match to pull out the win.  Milica Zagorac started the rally with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 win at #1 singles, defeating Claire Traimeau.  Fabienne Lahn followed with a 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 win over Meanna Lengren at #6 singles, pulling the Griffins within one 3-2.

Lilian Bandel tied the match at 3-3 for the Griffins earning a 6-0, 2-6, 6-4 win over Nia Lewis at #4 singles  before Kaukenas gave the Griffins the match with her three-set win at #5 singles.

Earlier in the match in doubles play, the Wildcats took the double point with wins at #1 and #3 doubles.  Chestnut Hill's lone doubles win came at the number two slot as Lahn and Veronika Lundgren defeated Lewis and Elena Camacho 7-5.  That win evened the double competition at 1-1 as Bandel and Elena Arenas Guisasola lost at #1 doubles , 6-3, with the double point to be decided with the  #3 doubles match. 

Kaukenas and Zagorac took the contest to a tiebreaker before losing 7-6 (7-4) to Siana Macdonald and Anna Marry, giving the Wildcats the doubles point.

The Women's Tennis Team returns to action on Friday, September 18, 2026 when they host conference newcomer Saint Thomas Aquinas College at the CHC Tennis Courts. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
