Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Griffins Defeat Spartans for Fourth Straight Win

The Chestnut Hill College Women's Tennis team earned a 6-1 win on Friday afternoon against Saint Thomas Aquinas College at the CHC Tennis Courts to remain undefeated on the season.

The Griffins improve to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  The Spartans fall to 0-3 overall and 0-3 in league play.  The Griffins' 4-0 start is their best start since the 2015-16 season when the team went 7-0 to start.

Chestnut Hill started the match off by winning the doubles point.  The Spartans defaulted at #3 doubles leaving the Griffins needing to win just one of the remaining two doubles matches.  The team of Elena Arenas Guisasola and Lilian Bandel produced a 6-2 win over Lily Dematas-Gonzalez and Emma Huber at #1 doubles to clinch the point and take an early lead in the match.

The Griffins went on to win five of the six singles to complete the 6-1 win with Milica Zagorac clinching the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Shreethika Vangela at #1 singles.

Prior to Zagorac's win at the top of the lineup, Tia Kaukenas and Fabienne Lahn scored victories at #5 and #6 singles respectively.  Lahn was a 6-0, 6-0 victor over Monica Martinez Blucher at #6 singles while Kaukenas was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Lisa Matz at #5 singles.

Following the match clincher at #1 singles, Bandel scored a 6-1, 6-4 win over Nina Victoria Derkic at #4 singles.  Veronika Lundgren then added the Griffins final point, shaking off some early rust  to score a 5-7, 7-6, 1-0 (10-8) win at #3 singles.

The women's tennis team is back in action again tomorrow, September 19, 2026 when they travel to face area rival Jefferson University in East Falls, Philadelphia.  First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
