Alex Crespin had a career-high ten kills as the Chestnut Hill College women's Volleyball earned a 3-0 victory over Queens College in their home opener Tuesday night at Sorgenti Arena!
The Griffins improve to 3-4 overall while the Knights fell to 1-7 on the season.
The Griffins won the first set 25-22 and held off a comeback attempt by Queen's in the second set, winning it 25-21 then rallied late in the third set to capture the match, winning the frame 25-20.
Crespin also added ten digs to record her first double-double of the season. The junior hitter also led the team with three aces. Micah McKenzie added nine kills while Kass Kimmel chipped in six.  Sofia Rodriguez led all players with 34 assists.Â
Defensively, Rachel Mace led the team with 16 digs, while Crespin and Sarah Allen had ten apiece. Kimmel had three blocks while McKenzie had two.
The Griffins jumped out to an early lead and never trailed in the opening set with the Knights forcing an 11-11 tie midway through the action. Chestnut Hill followed with a 7-3 run to pull ahead by four 18-14 as Crespin notched three kills during the run. Queens closed within two with two straight points and the two teams exchanged points the rest of the way with a QC service error providing the winning point of the set.
Chestnut Hill jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the second set with seven straight points breaking a 2-2 tie. Six of those seven points came off errors by the Queens team. The Griffins extended the lead to 13-3, completing an 11-1 run. CHC led 17-7 when Queens went on a 7-0 run, closed the gap to 17-14 and forcing a Griffin timeout.  The Knight's would get no closer than three points the rest of the way with Macayla Lindner's kill providing the final point in a 25-21 set win.
An early Chestnut Hill evaporated in the third set as Queens to an 11-10 lead and expanded to 15-13 before the Griffins made a final push. Five straight Griffin points reversed the lead and gave the hosts a 18-15 lead before pulling away and completing a 13-5 run to end the set with a 25-20 win and complete the three-set sweep.
For the match, the Griffins finished with 38 kills and hit .137 (38-21-124) while Queens finished the match with 30 kills and hit .034 (30-26-117). The Griffins held a 5-3 advantage in aces while Queens had a 61-57 advantage in dig and a 6-3 advantage in team blocks.
The women's volleyball team returns to action on Friday, September 11, 2026 when they host West Chester University at Sorgenti Arena. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
