The Chestnut Hill College Women's Tennis Team started their season in style on Wednesday, recording a 7-0 sweep of new conference member University of the District of Columbia at the CHC Tennis Courts in Philadelphia.
The Griffins opened the match with a sweep of all three doubles contests to take an early 1-0 lead. The doubles team of Tia Kaukenas and Milica Zagorac was the first doubles team to complete their match, defeating Nadia Zmukic and Iva Janketic 6-3 at #3 doubles.
The two seniors on this year's squad Elena Arenas Guisasola and Lilian Bandel followed with a 6-4 win over Polina Zelentsova and Yelzaveta Sylka at #1 doubles. Veronika Lundgren and Fabienne Lahn completed the doubles sweep with a 7-5 win over Mina Randjelovic and Sofia Shararanko at #2 doubles.
Zagorac gave the Griffins a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Zelentsova at #1 singles while Kaukenas defeated Janketic, 6-0, 6-2 at #5 singles to make the score 3-0. Arenas Guisasola then clinched the overall match for the Griffins with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Randjelovic at #2 singles.
Bandel followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Shararanko at #4 singles, coming back from a three-game deficit in the first set to win six straight games and capture the set. Lundgren needed three sets to defeat Sylka 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 at #3 singles to give the Griffins a 6-0 lead and Lahn battled back at #6 singles to defeat Zmukic 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 to complete the 7-0 sweep.
The women's tennis team is back in action on Sunday, September 13, 2026 when they host Assumption University at the CHC Tennis courts. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m.
