Griffins Supply CACC Women’s Soccer Player and Defensive Player of the Week, Ianniciello Appears on Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. - (9/17/2019) – Scoring shutout victories versus Lincoln University – 6-0 on September 11 – and Salem International University – 1-0 on September 13 – Chestnut Hill College was well represented on this week’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Soccer Report. Sophomore forward Maddie Jimenez (Bensalem, Pa.), who totaled five points (2 goals, 1 assist) in the two contests, was named the CACC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week. Meanwhile, senior defender Geena DiRugeris (Woodbury, N.J.) provided an assist on the second Griffin goal versus Lincoln University to earn the CACC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Additionally, junior goalkeeper Amanda Ianniciello (Milton, Ontario) recorded four saves in 135 minutes of shutout soccer to make an appearance on the CACC Women’s Soccer Honor Roll.

Scoring three goals in each half, Chestnut Hill College (2-1) evened their early-season record at 1-1 with this evening's 6-0 shutout at Lincoln University (0-2). The Lions were able to hold of the Griffin onslaught until after the 30-minute mark as Jimenez played freshman forward Riley Regan (Philadelphia, Pa.) for a breakaway goal at 30:52 (1-0). The Scarlet and Gold added a second goal at 35:34 (2-0) and was the benefactor of an own goal at 39:18 (3-0), before doubling their lead in the second half. Senior forward Nicole Cahill (Glendora, N.J.) was the Griffins' top performer with a pair of goals and an assist. Jimenez and Cahill each took six of the Griffins' 25 shots; Fanfarillo and Regan took five apiece and the other three came one apiece from DiRugeris, junior midfielder Marisa Murphy (Philadelphia, Pa.), and sophomore midfielder Madison Taylor (Bensalem, Pa.). Ianniciello (1-1) made two saves in the shutout victory.

Chestnut Hill College peppered the Salem International University (0-4) keeper with 39 shots, but they only need one to get by as Jimenez deposited the lone goal of the game in the Tiger net at 35:42 of a 1-0 final. The Griffins took 22 shots in the first half and another 17 in the second half, controlling the contest with a 39-7 shot advantage. Jimenez was responsible for 16 of Chestnut Hill College’s 39 shots. Five others took multiple chances, while senior defender Elizabeth McCormick (Philadelphia, Pa.), senior midfielder Sabrina Shinkowitz (Stratford, N.J.), freshman defender Josie Wilson (Mantua, N.J.), and senior defender Madison Slemmer (Hatboro, Pa.) recorded one shot apiece. Ianniciello and fellow junior goalkeeper, Paris Banks (Philadelphia, Pa.), made two saves apiece to earn a share of the shutout. Ianniciello earned the win (2-1) with her scoreless first half.
