Kalala Collects CACC Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll Recognition
New Haven, Conn. - (9/30/2019) – Junior outside hitter Corrine Kalala (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) totaled 42.0 points (40 kills, 1 solo block, 2 block assists) in a 2-1 week that included league wins over Goldey-Beacom College (W, 3-1; 26-24, 22-25, 25-16, 31-29) and Holy Family University (W, 3-2; 25-23, 26-28, 25-23, 12-25, 15-8) to earn an appearance on the included Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll. She totaled 40 kills, two assists, 10 digs, a solo block, and a pair of block assists over the course of the three matches. Her best performance was an 18-kill effort in the Griffins’ victory over the Tigers.
Chestnut Hill College (5-7, 2-2) led Georgian Court University (9-3, 2-0) as late as 23-22 in the opening set of Tuesday evening's CACC match. Unfortunately, the last three points of the frame were in the Lions' favor, 25-23, and the momentum eventually carried Georgian Court University to 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-12) win. Kalala scored a team-high nine points (9.0) with nine kills on a team-best .533 (9K-1E-15TA) hitting percentage.
The Griffins then took three of four sets (26-24, 22-25, 25-16, 31-29) from CACC foe Goldey-Beacom College (4-7, 1-2) on Thursday. After splitting the opening two sets, the Griffins rallied to earn their first conference win of the season. Kalala tallied 13 kills and a .281 hitting percentage in the winning effort.
The Scarlet and Gold evened their CACC record at 2-2 with Saturday afternoon's 3-2 (25-23, 26-28, 25-23, 12-25, 15-8) league victory over cross-city rival Holy Family University. The Griffins triumphed in the first (25-23), third (25-23), and fifth (15-8) sets, recovering from Tiger wins in the second (28-26) and fourth (25-12) sets. Freshman setter Henielys Ramos (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) reported her third triple-double of the season with 10 kills, 25 assists, and 10 digs, while ranking second on the Scarlet and Gold with 13.0 points. Kalala led the Griffins with 19.0 points, providing a season-high 18 kills, three digs, and a pair of block assists.
