Gautier Earns CACC Men’s Tennis Weekly Honor Roll Spot With Perfect Week versus Spartans and Knights

New Haven, Conn. – (3/10/2020) – Senior Antoine Gautier (Bordeaux, France) made his first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Tennis Report appearance of the 2019-2020 season with this week’s Honor Roll selection. Gautier was a perfect 4-0, despite the Griffins’ recent losses to St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) (L, 1-6 on March 5) and Queens College (L, 2-5 on March 6).

Chestnut Hill College (2-3) returned to play following a month-long layoff with last week’s matches at STAC (5-0) and Queens (6-1). The Griffins got off to a rough start, falling to the Spartans on Thursday, March 5, by a 6-1 final. Gautier also partnered with junior Kiki Dagneaux (Saint-Gervasy, France) for a 6-4 win in the second doubles flight, but following a 6-4 number-one doubles loss from sophomore Tom Pitchley (London, England) and junior Erik Jorsal (Mudgeeraba, Australia), STAC took the doubles point with a walkover in the third flight; 1-0. The Spartans added to their lead with a walkover at number six singles and a 6-2, 6-2, win at number two singles; 3-0. Gautier was able to momentarily delay their victory as he earned the Scarlet and Gold’s lone point with his 6-4, 6-0, third-flight singles win over junior Roberto Chong; 3-1. But, STAC soon clinched the match, 4-1, with a 7-5, 6-4, win at number four singles and added to their margin of victory with succeeding wins in the fifth (7-5, 6-2) and first (3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (10-8)) flights; 6-1.

Despite several tiebreakers and three-set matches, Queens College secured a 5-2 victory over Chestnut Hill College in Friday’s (March 6) action. After winning his singles and doubles matches against STAC, Gautier pulled off the same feat again against the Knights. He first partnered with Dagneaux for a 7-6 (7-3) victory at number two doubles. Unfortunately, the Griffins lost the doubles point, surrendering in the third flight and falling 7-5 in the first; 1-0. Queens College gained another point with a default win at number six singles; 2-0. They pushed their advantage to 3-0 with a 6-0, 7-6 (7-4), win at number two singles before a 7-6 (12-10), 6-4, number-one singles win from Pitchley broke the shutout; 3-1. Unfortunately, a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 teeter in the fourth flight went the in the Knights favor, clinching match (4-1) prior to Gautier’s 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, third-flight win over junior Eduardo Marino (Sao Paulo, Brazil); 4-2. Queens College added their final point with a 5-7, 6-4, 7-5, win at number five singles; 5-2.
