Gautier Stays Prefect In Spring, Scores CACC Player of the Week Award

New Haven, Conn. - (3/17/2020) – Chestnut Hill College served as host to the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) for a pair of matches on Monday, March 9. The Firebirds won the women's side, defeating the Griffins by a 7-0 final. The men's match was more competitive with the Scarlet and Gold taking the doubles round before winning the final three singles matches to comeback for a 4-2 victory over the Firebirds. Senior captain Antoine Gautier (Bordeaux, France) contributed to clutch a 7-6 (2) victory at number two doubles and scored the third Griffin third point of the match with his heroic 4-6, 6-2, 7-5, comeback at number three singles to secure the Central Atlantic College Conference (CACC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Week award.

Chestnut Hill College (3-3) got off to a good start against UDC (4-7), taking the doubles point from the Firbirds thanks to back-to-back wins in the first (6-3) and second (7-6 (7-2)) flights; sophomore Tom Pitchley (London, England) and junior Erik Jorsal (Mudgeeraba, Australia) were triumphant at number one, while Gautier and junior Kiki Dagneaux (Saint-Gervasy, France) succeeded at number two. A double default in the sixth singles flight kicked off the individual round. It was followed by a consecutive Firebirds wins at number two singles (6-4, 0-6, 6-3) and number one singles (6-3, 7-6 (7-5)) that briefly gave the visitors a 2-1 advantage. The Griffins evened the match, 2-2, with a 6-0, 6-0, number five singles win from sophomore Kai Adler (Leer, Germany) and followed it up with Gautier and Jorsal respectively earning the last two points of the afternoon in the third (4-6, 6-2, 7-5) and fourth (7-6 (7-5), 6-3) flights.

Gautier finished the season with a 5-1 individual record, all of his decisions came in the third singles flight. In doubles play, Gautier also sported a 5-1 record while teaming with Dagneaux in the second team flights.
