DePalma Scores Honorable Mention For CACC Player of the Week
                                                                                                                   
New Haven, Conn. – (9/25/2012) – Chestnut Hill College earned two home Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) wins last week, for her part in the victories junior outside hitter Alexandra DePalma (Shillington, Pa.) was recognized with an honorable mention for the CACC Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week award. DePalma totaled 26 kills and 25 digs, opening the week with a double-double (15 kills and 16 digs) against Goldey-Beacom College and ending it with 11 kills and nine digs against Concordia College (NY).
 
Chestnut Hill College (6-8, 2-1) first battled in front of an enthusiastic Sorgenti crowd on Wednesday, September 19, enduring a gritty match with Goldey-Beacom College for their first CACC victory of the season, 3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-13, 26-24). Strong backline play allowed the Griffins to attack the Lightning efficiently as they hit .255 (61K-20E-161TA) as a team with three hitters finishing with at least ten kills. DePalma led the trio with 15 kills (15K-5E-50TA, .200) and 16 digs.
 
Then, the Griffins finished strong at the net to defeat Concordia College (NY) 3-0 (25-20, 25-7, 25-20) on Saturday, September 22, for their second straight CACC victory. Freshman setter Alyssa Tamsing (Ventura, Calif.) spread the ball around to an efficient front line, as DePalma, junior middle hitter Mary Markowski (Parkton, Md.), and freshman middle hitter Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.) all hit over .300 with at least six kills. DePalma finished with 11 kills, on a .320 (11K-3E-25TA) hitting percentage, and nine digs.
 
DePalma currently ranks second on the team in kills (99), kills-per-set (2.30), digs-per-set (2.86), points (110.5), and points-per-set (2.57), while also ranking third in digs (123).
 
The women's volleyball team continues their CACC schedule with a 6:00 p.m. match at Philadelphia University on Tuesday, September 25.
