Owen and Maurer Draw Honor Roll Recognition on ECC Weekly Report
                                                                                                                   
Central Islip, N.Y. – (3/5/2013) – Doing their part to help Chestnut Hill College to a 2-0 road trip in California, senior attack Craig Owen (Glenolden, Pa.) and senior goalkeeper Dakota Maurer (Lititz, Pa.) were recognized on the East Coast Conference’s (ECC) Week Two Honor Roll. Owen totaled nine goals, two assists, and two ground balls while Maurer manned the Griffin goal for 25 saves on a .610 save percentage.
 
Against Notre Dame de Namur University on Thursday, February 28, Chestnut Hill College only held a 2-1 advantage the first quarter despite a 10-3 shooting edge. The Griffins made up for the inaccuracy by taking a 4-1 lead to halftime and outscoring the Argonauts 8-2 in the second half for a 12-3 victory. Owen totaled four points with three goals and an assist in the Griffins first competition on their California crusade while Maurer made ten saves and recovered one ground ball in his first win of the season (1-1).
 
The goals kept coming at Dominican University of California, as Chestnut Hill College (2-1) scored the contest’s first two goals by the 5:50 mark of the first quarter. Dominican University of California (1-1) answered just twenty second later (5:30), 2-1, but the Griffins book ended the quarter gap with back-to-back goals for a 6-1 edge with 13:53 remaining in the first half. The Penguins were able to cut the deficit to 6-3 by 10:36, but a 7-1 Griffin run closed the half on a 13-4 margin. A Penguin third quarter narrowed the gap to 15-9, but a tightly played fourth quarter left the final at 19-13, Griffins. Owen supplied three goals, an assist, and a ground ball while Maurer earned the win (2-1) by totaling 15 saves.
 
Owen took 11 shots to record his career-high six goals against the Penguins. He currently leads the Griffins with 11 points while Maurer held Notre Dame de Namur University and Dominican University of Califor­nia at bay with an 8.23 goal-against-average.
 
The men’s lacrosse team will head to Greensburg, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, March 9, for a 1:00 p.m. match against former ECC member, Seton Hill University.
