New Haven, CT – (4/20/2010) – Sophomore David Negron (Philadelphia, PA) is the latest Chestnut Hill College men’s tennis student-athlete to receive recognition among the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) weekly award winners. Negron was an honorable mention for the Player of the Week Award after helping the Griffins to conference wins over Bloomfield College and Post University in a 2-3 overall week.
Negron was 3-0 at number six singles with wins over freshman Michael Beeson (London, England) of Bloomfield College, sophomore Michael MacDonald (Stamford, CT) of Post University, and sophomore Dalton Barton (Wyoming, DE) of East Stroudsburg University. Negron topped Beeson 6-0, 6-1, defeated MacDonald 6-1, 6-1, and retired Barton 6-3, 6-3. In doubles play, he teamed with sophomore Adrian Avena (Vineland, NJ) for three wins at number three doubles. They defeated Bloomfield College 8-3, Dowling College 8-5, and Post University, 8-0.
Negron has mainly competed at number four singles for Chestnut Hill College (13-12, 7-5) this year. He holds a 7-6 individual record, which includes a 2-2 mark at number five singles and 3-2 record at number six singles. With Avena, he is 15-8 at number three doubles.
The men’s tennis team’s next competition comes in the CACC Team Championship Tournament. The Griffins will challenge Philadelphia University in opening round play. The match is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. start.
