Stocklin Headers Hail CACC Honor Roll Recognition
New Haven, Conn. – (9/16/2013) – Last week, in back-to-back Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contests, it was the head of senior forward
Robert Stocklin (Mount Laurel, N.J.) that accounted for the Griffins only goals. The first Stocklin header delivered Chestnut Hill College an early lead in a crushing 2-1, double-overtime, loss to Georgian Court University on Wednesday, September 11, but on Sunday, September 15, his second header stood as the Griffins lone goal in a 1-0 shutout of #12 Post University. For his efforts, Stocklin garnered mention on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll.
After a shotless first half, Chestnut Hill College (2-2, 1-1) made the most of their second-half opportunities against the, nationally ranked, Eagles.
James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) was the key factor in the affair's opening half, as the Griffins freshman goalkeeper made five saves on eight Eagle shots, three sailing wide of the net. The stalemate lasted past halftime, until 53:25, when Amaya lobbed a ball to Stocklin's awaiting head, 1-0. Following the tally, defense was the key to victory, as the Griffins frustrated the Eagles time-and-time again in a nine-shot, five corner kick, second half.
The Griffins first CACC contest, and home opener, started with high drama for the Griffins, who battled Georgian Court University in a 2-1 double-overtime thriller. The Lions were the victors, matching a Stocklin header in the 32nd minute (31:47) with a breakaway goal in the 68th minute and ending the contest at 104:40 on a tremendous individual effort from freshman midfielder Garret McVeigh (Cherry Hill, N.J.), 2-1.
The men's soccer team breaks from CACC play for their next contest; a 7:30 p.m. kickoff is scheduled at Bloomsburg University on Wednesday, September 18.
