Howell Appears On CACC Men’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll
New Haven, Conn. – (3/22/2021) – Junior attack J.R. Howell (East Meadow, N.Y.) led the Scarlet and Gold with five points (3 goals, 2 assists), ground ball, and a caused turnover in Saturday’s narrow 10-8 loss to #19 Frostburg State University. Howell led the Scarlet and Gold with five points (3 goals, 2 assists), a ground ball, and a caused turnover; his performance earned him recognition on this week’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Lacrosse Honor Roll.
The final 15 minutes was all that mattered as Chestnut Hill College (2-2) and #19 Frostburg State University (3-0) entered the fourth quarter of play tied at 6-6. In the fourth quarter, Howell took advantage on a man-up opportunity, 7-6 (13:15), before making Scarlet and Gold history with his 82nd career assist finding Revak to tie the contest at 8-8 with 5:04 (Revak) remaining in the contest. Unfortunately, the Scarlet and Gold celebration was short-lived as the Bobcats outran the Griffins to a 10-8 conclusion.
The Griffins came out strong with a man-up connection between senior attack Scott Wilden (Wexford, Pa.) and Howell (1-0, 10:33), and a pair of goals from senior midfielder Ben Revak (Aston, Pa.) (9:34, 5:39) puting the Griffins up 3-0. The Bobcats managed to trim the Scarlet and Gold lead to 3-1 by the end of the opening frame, but senior attack Carson Rees (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) found freshman attack Jackson Melnick (Milford, Pa.) (4-1, 14:41) and Howell connected with junior midfielder Jack Clyne (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) (5-1, 10:33) to put the Griffins up 5-1 with 10:33 remaining in the second quarter. Unfortunately, late Bobcat tallies reduced the halftime spread to 5-3; a measure that was further cut to zero by a 3-1 third-quarter swing, 6-6.
Chestnut Hill College returns to Victory Field #1 next Saturday, March 27, when they host Roberts Wesleyan College in a 11:00 a.m. contest.
