Chestnut Hill College Puts Four on CACC Men’s Lacrosse Weekly Report

New Haven, Conn. – (4/26/2021) – Chestnut Hill College enjoyed a 3-0 week of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play, posting wins over Georgian Court University (W, 13-7 on April 20), Wilmington University (W, 12-8 on April 22), and Dominican College (W, 22-11). As a result, four Griffins graced this week’s CACC Men’s Lacrosse Weekly Report; senior attack Carson Rees (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) was named the Player of the Week, graduate faceoff Zachary Ornstein (Howell, N.J.) earned the Defensive Player of the Week, junior Jake Miller (Castle Rock, Colo.) garnered the Goalkeeper of the Week honors, and freshman attack Jackson Melnick (Milford, Pa.) warranted Honor Roll recognition.

An 18-of-24 (.750) performance on the draw and 14 ground balls from Ornstein kept Chestnut Hill College (7-2, 4-0) in control of Tuesday's (April 20) CACC contest at Georgian Court University (6-2, 2-1). The Griffins used the extra possessions to out shoot the Lions 57-30 and outscore them as well, 13-7. Rees led the Scarlet and Gold victory with four goals, two assists, and two ground balls. Melnick helped Ornstein keep the Griffins in possession with eight ground balls. He also provided an assist. Miller recorded 12 saves and 4 ground balls in the win.

Chestnut Hill College welcomed Wilmington University (1-3, 1-1) to Victory Field #1 for Thursday morning's CACC contest. The affair was competitive early, but a Scarlet and Gold run at the start of the fourth quarter freed up the Griffins for an eventual 12-8 victory. Melnick (2 goals, 3 assists), senior midfielder Ben Revak (Aston, Pa.) (2 goals, 2 assists), and sophomore midfielder Mike Smith (Center Valley, Pa.) (2 goals, 2 assists) each recorded at least four points; the first lead the group with five. Melnick added a ground ball to his five points. In the circle, Ornstein kept the Griffins in possession off the faceoff with 23 wins in 24 chances (23-of-24, .958) and 17 ground balls. He also recorded a goal with 7:23 (5-2) remaining in the second quarter. In goal, Miller earned the win with 16 saves. Rees finished the affair with a goal and a ground ball.

Riding high off CACC their wins over the Lions and Wildcats, Chestnut Hill College doubled the output of Dominican College in Saturday’s (April 24) league contest, 22-11. The Griffins led 14-3 at halftime, making good use a 29-11 first-half shot advantage and a 15-of-19 (.789) success rate on the faceoff. The Wildcats played it closer in the second half, but late efforts were not enough to derail the Scarlet and Gold victory.

Rees led Chestnut Hill College with six goals on eight shots; he also totaled three ground balls and three caused turnovers. He got plenty of help from Melnick, who offered three goals, three assists, and two ground balls to the Griffin success. Ornstein recorded his 100th ground ball as a Griffin with his final loose-ball recovery of the contest (1:35, 2nd). He finished the contest with seven ground balls and a 14-of-17 (.824) success rate on the draw. Miller earned the win (6-2) with five saves, two ground balls, and a caused turnover in the opening 36:25.

Chestnut Hill College returns to Victory Field #1 on Thursday, April 29, for a 7:00 p.m. CACC contest versus Felician University.
