Dennis’ Unbeaten Week Earns CACC Player of the Week Praise

New Haven, CT – (9/13/2010) –
Freshman Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, OH) went 3-0 in both singles and doubles play last week to earn the title of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week. Dennis opened the week with wins against conference rival, Goldey-Beacom College, before completing her perfect play with wins over Molloy College and Adelphi University.
 
Dennis defeated freshman Marie-Louise Klein (Espergaerde, Denmark) 6-1, 6-1 at number two singles, after teaming with sophomore Nastia Shcherbakova (Minsk, Belarus) for a 8-4 doubles victory against Goldey-Beacom College on Wednesday, September 8. Unfortunately, Chestnut Hill College (1-2) could not come away with a win over the Lightning, who won the match 5-4. The Griffins responded with a 9-0 win over Molloy College in their home opener on Friday, September 10. Against the Lions, Dennis beat freshman Gabrielle DiCroce (East Meadow, N.Y.) 6-2, 6-0 at number two singles to contribute an individually to the shutout. She also teamed with Shcherbakova for an 8-1 win at number one doubles. In the final match of the week, Dennis won 6-2, 6-3 at number two singles after collaborating for an 8-2 win at number one doubles. However, the Griffins lost the match 5-4 to Adelphi University.
 
The women’s tennis team travels to Caldwell College at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14 for their next CACC match.
