Walck Weighs In On Overtime Tilts, Earns CACC Honor Roll Recognition

New Haven, N.H. – (12/2/2014) – Matching a career-high for scoring, 24 points, in an overtime loss, 81-77, at Millersville University on Tuesday, November 25, and providing 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists in Chestnut Hill College’s 99-97 overtime triumph over the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) on Saturday, November 29, senior guard Christian Walck (Lancaster, Pa.) was recently recognized on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Honor Roll.

The early season drama continued for the Chestnut Hill College (1-4), whose first five decisions of the season have now been determined by a 10-point margin (373-363). In Tuesday evening’s 81-77 overtime loss at Millersville University, each side won a half by six points with the Griffins owning a 38-32 halftime lead before regulation settled on a 63-63 tie. After halftime, Walck and freshman forward Edward McWade (Wildwood, N.J.) quickly gave the Griffins their largest lead, increasing the advantage to 12 points, 44-32, only 2:41 into the second half (17:19). But by 11:49 the Marauders brought all things even, 46-46, and from there the opponents never separated by more than three points before coming even again, 63-63, after a couple free throws from Marauders freshman guard Sam Light (Jonestown, Pa.) knotted the game with 26 seconds (0:26) to play. Although sophomore guard Billy Cassidy (Primos, Pa.) had the last chance to end the affair in regulation, he was all the Griffins had to offer in overtime. He scored the Griffins first ten points in the extra frame, earning them a 73-70 edge on three straight trifectas, the last including converted visit to the charity stripe. Yet, Chestnut Hill College was still forced to tie the contest at 74-74, before the Marauders escaped on a 7-3 closing run, 81-77.

The Griffins string of early-season nail biters continued in their home opener against UDC. For the first time this year, Chestnut Hill College finished on the right side of a thrilling finish, as two free throws by Walck with 5.5 seconds left in overtime provided the clinching points in a 99-97 non-conference victory over the Firebirds. Senior center Filip Sekulic (Danilovgrad, Montenegro) paced six Griffins in double figures with 19 points and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds for his third career double-double, while McWade poured in a career-high 18 points on 7-of-9 (.778) shooting in the best game of his young stint on the Hill.

The men’s basketball team begins their CACC schedule with their next contest; an 8:00 p.m. tipoff against Wilmington University is scheduled for Wednesday, December 3.
