Callis Claims CSFL Week 4 Offensive Player of the Week Title

Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (10/13/2015) – The Chestnut Hill College scored eight points in the final 1:44, ending up on the top side of a seesaw afternoon at Post University, 24-21, when freshman quarterback Reginald Robinson Jr. (Germantown, Md.) hooked up with sophomore wide receiver Domoree Hill (Bethlehem, Pa.) for a 10-yard touchdown pass with 32 seconds remaining, the last salvo in a 24-21 triumph that handed the Scarlet and Gold the inaugural Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Bowl. Despite the last-minute heroics it was freshman running back Dasantae Callis (Folsom, Pa.) who kept the Griffin offense humming and earned the Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) Offensive Player of the Week award.

CSFL Release (10_13_15)

Chestnut Hill College (2-1) set up the game-winning march with a crucial defensive stop at the most opportune time, turning potential heartbreak into elation in the blink of an eye. The Griffins were ready to take the lead on their previous drive, but Post University (0-4) poked the ball out of Robinson's hands on a scramble and recovered at their own 1-yard line, denying the visitors a go-ahead score. But the defense rose up, forcing a safety – its second of the day – that cut the Eagle edge to 21-18 with 1:44 remaining.

The Griffins took over at their own 45 and needed only three plays to matriculate down to the Post 23. The momentum stalled there, however, facing the visitors with a do-or-die 4th-and-2. Robinson calmly found Hill for a 10-yard gain down to the 10, and then connected with his go-to wideout two plays later with the winning touchdown. Consecutive sacks by freshmen Brian Layden (Springfield, Pa.) and Justuce Pitts (Philadelphia, Pa.) allowed the clock to run out on Chestnut Hill College's memorable road debut.

Callis carried 28 times for 167 yards (an average of 6.0 yards per tote), helping Chestnut Hill College ground up the Eagles to the tune of 271 yards rushing on the afternoon. He also had three receptions for 44 yards, was supported in the trenches by Robinson (15 carries, 56 yards) and freshman running back Alexander Rivera III (Jamesburg, N.J.) (16 rushes, 48 yards).

The sprint football team is next in action on Friday, October 23; the Griffins welcome Franklin-Pierce University to Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School Football Stadium for their home finale. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
