Eberhard Earns First CACC Weekly Honor Roll Mention
New Haven, Conn. – (3/8/2016) – Freshman shortstop Nichole Eberhard (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned her first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Weekly Honor Roll of her collegiate career after batting .571 (4-for-7) with two doubles, a run-batted-in (RBI), a walk and a steal in the final 10 games of Chestnut Hill College’s spring trip to Florida.
On Tuesday, March 1, Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBAU) welcomed Chestnut Hill College with two first-inning runs before gradually pulling away in a 7-2 game-one final. Freshman second baseman Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.) doubled in a run in the first inning of game two and Eberhard doubled home another in the third inning, but their efforts were outweighed by a five-run PBAU third inning that spirited the Sailfish for a 10-2, five-inning victory.
She came up big again on Thursday, March 3, when game two served as the main event of the doubleheader at the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT). The Panthers and Griffins both went scoreless for the first four innings of game two before a lead-off walk, a grounder to third base, and a single to left field plated the only run FIT needed in a 1-0 final. The Scarlet and Gold doubled FIT's hit total (10-5) and had a least a hit in each inning of game two, but still could not get a run across. Eberhard doubled with one out in the second inning and freshman center fielder Marissa Maioran (Rockaway, N.J.) singled to lead off the third inning, before a pair of two-hit innings went fruitless. Eberhard singled again in the sixth inning, senior designated player Meghan Kehr (Exton, Pa.) and both singles in the seventh, but all efforts were null. Eberhard went 3-for-3 in the second affair.
The Griffins play next on Saturday, March 12, when they visit the New York Institute of Technology for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
