Cattai Reliefs for CACC Weekly Rookie Award, Borawski Breaks In on Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. – (3/29/2016) – In a 1-3 week that included a 9-7 loss to #3 Millersville University and a three-game series at the College of St. Rose, Chestnut Hill College offered two student-athletes to the Central Atlantic College Conference (CACC) Baseball Weekly Report as freshman Dino Cattai (Philadelphia, Pa.) was recognized as the Rookie of the Week and junior Dylan Borawski (Hatfield, Pa.) earned his first Honor Roll laurel. They combined to throw a shutout in the first game of the doubleheader opposite the Golden Knights with Borawski collecting the win (2-1) while Cattai earned his second two-inning save (2) of the season.

Pitching ruled the day at the College of St. Rose where Chestnut Hill College split this afternoon’s competition with the Golden Knights, winning the opener on a combined shutout from junior Dylan Borawski (Hatfield, Pa.) and freshman Dino Cattai (Philadelphia, Pa.), 1-0, before sophomore Matthew Kress (Lansdale, Pa.) fell on the short side of a 2-1 final in game two. Sophomore second baseman Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.) and senior designated hitter Robert Slagle III (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) recorded the Griffins’ only two hits in the first game while senior first baseman Patrick Campion (Norristown, Pa.) knocked in the only run needed for victory with a third-inning ground out to second base. Junior shortstop Jonathan Baturgil (Freehold, N.J.) recorded two of the Griffins’ five hits in game two.

Campion’s third-inning grounder plated the only run of the opener while Borawski and Cattai kept the Golden Knights guessing over nine frames. An error by the Golden Knight third baseman put Baturgil on first to start the at-bat. A Craig bunt single back to the pitcher moved him to third for the run-scoring ground out, 1-0. Borawski allowed five hits and three walks while striking out five in seven innings. Cattai did not allow a single base runner while striking out five.

Testing their meddle against one of the top teams in the nation for the first time this season, Chestnut Hill College welcomed #3 Millersville University to Latshaw-McCarthy Field for Tuesday's nine-inning, non-conference tilt. The Griffins got started early with a pair of first-inning runs courtesy of an error by the Marauder third baseman and singles from junior right fielder Joseph Monaghan (Doylestown, Pa.) and Campion, but the Marauders' six-run second inning laid the ground work for their eventual 9-7 win over the Scarlet and Gold. Monaghan finished the contest 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a run-batted-in (RBI). Cattai threw 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out three.

The baseball team returns to Latshaw-McCarthy Field and their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Wednesday, March 30, when they host Philadelphia University in a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
