Casaletto and Jackson Draw CACC Honor Roll Recognition

New Haven, Conn. - (9/26/2016) – Junior midfielder Joseph Casaletto (Sewell, N.J.) had a foot in two of Chestnut Hill College’s three goals this week while senior goalkeeper James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) surpassed current assistant coach Michael Goldstein ’13 as the Griffins’ all-time leader in shutouts with his flawless victory, 1-0, over Queens College on Wednesday, September 21. For their efforts, Casaletto and Jackson both received mention on this week’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Soccer Honor Roll.

A scoreless first half set the stage for a dramatic conclusion in Wednesday’s men's soccer contest at Queens College, where Chestnut Hill College (1-6, 0-4) earned their first win of the season on a converted Casaletto free kick at 52:37. The Griffins overcame an 18-11 shot differential - 12-5 in the second half - using an opportunistic Knight foul to seize the upper hand early in the second half. Junior forward Zachary Gray (West Sussex, England) led the Griffins in shots with four and sophomore forward Jason Burns (Douglassville, Pa.) offered three more, but it was the one attempt by Casaletto that made all the difference. Jackson (1-5) made seven saves in the victory, collecting his 13th career shutout for the program's all-time mark.

On Sunday, September 25, Chestnut Hill College made use of their corner kick advantage, scoring twice on the peripheral restarts during Sunday’s CACC contest at Dominican College. Unfortunately, both tallies came in response to a Charger score and the Griffins did not have an answer for the home team’s final tally, which came 3:39 seconds into overtime. Casaletto located Gray for the Griffins first responsorial score at 39:35 (1-1) and junior midfielder Charles Simpson (Dalgety Bay, Scotland) found freshman midfielder Paris Bruhn (Horst Holstein, Germany) for the second at 75:05. Jackson (1-6) totaled eight saves in the loss.

The Chestnut Hill College men’s soccer team continues their CACC schedule on Wednesday, September 28, when they begin a four-game home stand with a 4:30 p.m. contest versus Goldey-Beacom College.
