Glenn Earns Fourth Rookie of the Week Honor

New Haven, Conn. - (2/27/2017) –Freshman forward Shannon Glenn (Philadelphia, Pa.) wrapped up the 2016-17 regular season in fine form, earning her fourth Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week honor as the Griffins saw their season come to a close with a 70-53 loss to Bloomfield College in the quarterfinal round of the CACC Tournament.

Glenn opened the week scoring 14 points and grabbing six rebounds in an 89-72 setback against Goldey-Beacom College in the team’s annual “Play4Kay” contest on February 21. Goldey-Beacom College (17-11, 13-6 CACC) jumped out to an early six-point advantage, 13-7, after a trifecta from junior guard Lexi Bruno (Millville, N.J.) with 5:51 remaining in the opening stanza. The Lightning lead grew to seven points, 16-9, at the 2:53 mark, but Chestnut Hill College (16-10, 11-8 CACC) responded, closing the quarter on an 8-2 run to enter the second quarter down just one, 18-17. Growing their lead slowly through the middle two frames, he Lightning struck quickly in the final quarter, opening up a 16-point, 72-56, lead following a Bruno three with 6:23 remaining. Chestnut Hill College battled hard, closing the deficit to 14 points, 82-68, following a layup from junior forward Nicole Parriski (Burlington, N.J.) with just under three minutes (2:53) remaining in the contest. The visitors proved too much, however, extending their advantage to 19, 89-70, before settling for the 17-point, 89-72 victory.

Glenn followed that performance with a nine point three assist performance in the quarterfinal loss to the Bears. Both sides struggled in a 12-11 first-quarter spread that saw Bloomfield College (21-7, 17-2) steal a one-point first quarter edge on a last minute (0:38) layup from sophomore forward Deja McKenzie (Baltimore, Md.). The Bears seized separation in the second quarter, where they separated for a double-digit lead, 21-11, as early as 7:13, before taking a 35-21 (0:01) lead into the locker rooms. After halftime, Chestnut Hill College (16-10, 11-7) once cut the Bear edge to single digits, 38-29, on a three-point play from Parriski at 6:07. Unfortunately, the Griffins did not get any closer until sophomore forward Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) scored a layup at 2:34, 41-33. Senior forward Caity Kuhnen (Binghamton, N.Y.) cut the deficit to just six points, 41-35, with a jumper at 1:11 remaining in the third quarter, but that was as close as the Scarlet and Gold would get in a 70-53 final that saw the Bears outscore the Griffins 22-16 in the final frame.

Junior guard Vicky Tumasz (North Wales, Pa.) added three rebounds, two assists, and a steal to her double-digit points. Meanwhile, freshman guard Cailey Gibson (Marlton, N.J.) totaled half of the Chestnut Hill College bench points (20 points). Wildgoose added two blocks and a steal to her two-way effort.
