Chestnut Hill College Athletics

 

New Haven, CT – (4/18/2011) – The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) recognized senior Mario Gutierrez (Malaga, Spain) as an honorable mention for the Player of the Week award after helping Chestnut Hill College capture the #4 seed in the upcoming CACC Championship Tournament.  

 

Gutierrez was 2-1 at number one singles and 3-0 at number two doubles in a 2-1 week for Chestnut Hill College (9-12, 3-3). After collecting his Senior Day gifts, Gutierrez teamed for an 8-2 victory at number two doubles and scored an 8-3 win over freshman Ceran Messam (St. Andrew, Jamaica) at number one singles to lead the Griffins to a 9-0 sweep of Bloomfield College. The win earned the Griffins their second consecutive season of CACC postseason play. For the year Gutierrez is 11-9 at number one singles and 9-12 in doubles play, most recently contributing to a 5-5 record at #2 doubles.

 

The men’s tennis team challenges #1 Concordia College (NY) in a 3:00 p.m. match on Tuesday, April 19, as a semifinal battle for the CACC Championship.
