Game-Winner versus Jefferson University Earns O’Toole CACC Weekly Honor Roll Mention

New Haven, Conn. - (10/24/2017) – In a stunning 2-1 league victory over Jefferson University, on Wednesday, October 18, junior midfielder Marikate O'Toole (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored the game-winner and thus earned herself an Honor Roll mention on this week’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Soccer Report. She also took three of the Scarlet and Gold’s six shots in a 2-0 league loss at Felician University on Saturday, October 21. This is the first such recognition for O’Toole.

After a scoreless first half, Chestnut Hill College (3-12, 3-9) found the magic in the latter frame against Jefferson University (8-6, 7-3) as goals from sophomore midfielder Sabrina Shinkowitz (Philadelphia, Pa) and O’Toole propelled the Griffins to a 2-1 triumph. Despite a 28-8 shot deficit, the Griffins overcame the Lady Rams by making the most of their opportunities; Shinkowitz buried a strong rip to the right corner of the net to tie the contest 1-1 at 71:41 and O'Toole provided the game-winner with 3:27 remaining (86:32) on a perfectly played centering pass from senior forward Julianna Casasanto (Philadelphia, Pa.). Jazikoff took three of the Griffins' eight shots. O'Toole needed two shots to net her first goal of the season, while Shinkowitz, junior midfielder Brianna Ferrell (Newtown Square, Pa.), and freshman forward Gabby Fanfarillo (Glassboro, N.J.) each recorded one shot. Sophomore goalkeeper Leah Peshkin (Haddon Heights, N.J.) earned the win (2-5) with seven saves.

With a potential CACC Championship Tournament bid on the line, the Chestnut Hill College visited Felician University (5-9-1, 4-7) for the final their final league game of the regular season. After a solid defensive effort and 78 minutes of scoreless soccer, it was an own goal that did the Griffins in as a play back to the goalkeeper ended in catastrophe (1-0 at 78:51). The Golden Falcons added an insurance goal 10 minutes later (89:46) and won the league contest, 2-0. O’Toole took three of the Scarlet and Gold’s six shots and Peshkin made six saves in the loss (2-6).

The Chestnut Hill College women’s soccer team plays their last game at the Campus Field this Wednesday, October 25, when they host Roberts Wesleyan College in a 3:30 p.m. non-conference contest.
