Marino and Fuchs Respectively Named CSFLÂ Offensive and Special Team Players of the Week
Â
West Point, N.Y. - (10/20/2017) – In a triumphant return to A.A. Garthwaite Stadium, sophomore quarterback Mike Marino (Blue Bell, Pa.) needed only a half to throw for 183 yards and produce six touchdowns in a 49-7 final against Caldwell University. Meanwhile, Fuchs hit all seven of his extra point attempts, totaled 141 yards on three punts (47.0 yards/punt), and accumulated 441 yards on eight kickoffs (55.1 yards/kickoff). As a result, Marino and Fuchs were respectively honored as the Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week. This is the second such honor for Fuchs this year as the Scarlet and Gold’s kicker was recognized for his play in a 30-18 win at Mansfield University (October 7).
Â
Chestnut Hill College (2-3) scored six times in the first half – all Marino scores (4 passing, 2 rushing) - and limited the newest member of the CSFL, Caldwell University (1-4), to a fleeting fourth-quarter touchdown in a 49-7 final. Meanwhile, the Scarlet and Gold defense limited the Cougars to 127 yards of total offense and was headlined by a 10-tackle effort from junior defensive lineman Brian Layden (Springfield, Pa.) and significant contribution from junior Kyle Johnson-Hackett (Philadelphia, Pa.) and freshman defensive back Anthony Kelly (Perkasie, Pa.).
Â
Chestnut Hill College’s 49 points is the highest since their 48-13 inaugural-game victory over Princeton University (9/19/15). It was a career day for both Marino and Fuchs; the former was 9-for-15 (60.0%) and threw for four touchdowns in his efficient 183-yard performance, while the latter totaled a career-high seven points.
Â
The Chestnut Hill College sprint football team will travel to Waterbury, Connecticut, next Saturday, October 28, for a 6:00 p.m. CSFL kickoff at Post University.
