Tumasz’s Player of the Week Honor Leads Chestnut Hill College Trio on CACC Women’s Basketball Report
New Haven, Conn. - (11/27/2017) – Averaging 22.5 points-per-game (PPG) and hitting a career-high seven (7-of-8, .875) three point baskets in Chestnut Hill College’s 93-80 victory at Mercy College, senior guard Vicky Tumasz (North Wales, Pa.) was recognized today, Monday, November 27, as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Her teammates, junior forward Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) and freshman guard Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.) provided her with plenty of support, both earning a mention on the CACC Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll.
After holding an early edge on East Stroudsburg University (4-1), on Wednesday, November 22, Chestnut Hill College (3-2) fell victim to a 23-8 turnover margin that eventually precipitated a 20-point, 94-74, Warrior victory. Tumasz led four Griffins in double figures with 18 points; another was Wildgoose, who recorded her third double-double in four games with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Tumasz scored half of her baskets (6-of-13, .462 FG%) from beyond the three point line (3-of-8, .375 3PT%). She was also 3-of-4 (.750) from the free throw line and grabbed eight rebounds in her fourth straight double digit scoring performance. Wildgoose added an assist and two blocks to her double-double; 13 points and 10 rebounds. Glenn and Sebold were the other two Griffins in double figures. Glenn match Wildgoose’s 13 points in excess of three rebounds, three assists, and a block, while Sebold came off the Scarlet and Gold bench for 10 points, three rebounds, and three assists in her collegiate debut.
The Scarlet and Gold got off to an early lead at Mercy College (2-3), using three point daggers from Tumasz, sophomore guard Cailey Gibson (Marlton, N.J.), and Glenn to build an 18-8 edge. Chestnut Hill College extended their lead to as many as 18 points, 42-24, midway (5:20) through the second quarter and held a 14-point, 49-35, halftime advantage before decisively putting the Mavericks away in a 93-80 final.
Tumasz matched a career-high with her 27 points and did so efficiently, hitting 9-of-12 (.750) from the field, 7-of-8 (.875) from three point range, and 2-of-2 (1.000) at the free throw line in the process. She also recorded three rebounds, a block, and five steals. Gibson and Wildgoose both finished with 17 points; the former added four rebounds, five assists, and two steals while reestablishing her career-high scoring total for the second time in the last three games, and the latter also recorded three rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Glenn offered her first career double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds) while Sebold provided a dozen (12) of the Griffins’ 14 bench points.
The Chestnut Hill College women’s basketball returns to action on Tuesday, November 28, when they host Bloomsburg University in a 6:00 p.m. home opener.
