Record Week Lands Two Griffins On Weekly CACC Report

New Haven, CT – (5/2/2011) – Chestnut Hill College enjoyed the best week in program history, hashing off five wins, which included the sweep of two conference doubleheaders and a non-conference matchup with the University of the Sciences. Junior left fielder Alex Latchum (Warrington, PA) batted .458 (11-for-24) with seven runs and four runs-batted-in (RBI) to garner the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week award while junior pitcher Rudy Behrens (Wallingford, CT) earned relief wins against Nyack College and Post University to receive an honorable mention for the Pitcher of the Week award.

Latchum recorded two triples in a 4-for-6 the opener against Nyack College on Tuesday, April 26. He totaled three RBI in the contest to help the Griffins grab a 12-9 comeback win and finished the double 5-for-9 (.556) at the plate. Latchum was 2-for-4 (.500) with two runs and an RBI in the non-conference win at the University of the Sciences (USciences) on Wednesday, April 27, before a 4-for-11 effort in the sweep of Post University on Saturday, April 30. He has been hot as of late, raising his average to .291 (37-for-127). In the lead-off role, he has drawn 23 walks to lead the Griffins in on-base percentage (.423) while also recording 31 runs scored, 12 RBI, and 16 stolen bases.

Behrens made two, shutdown, relief appearances for two wins this week. In the second game against Nyack College, he took the mound for the Warriors last three at-bats and held them to one hit and a walk while striking out three. Behrens came through again in the first game against Post University. He provided five innings of scoreless relief against the Eagles; again only allowing a hit and a walk, but this time striking out eight. Behrens is 3-4 on the season with a 4.02 ERA. He has allowed 14 earned runs on 32 hits and 11 walks while striking out 33 in 31.1 innings of work.
