Craig Crushes 150th Hit, Slugs Way to Second CACC Player of the Week Award

New Haven, Conn. – (4/16/2018) – Senior shortstop Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.) was the sparkplug in a red hot Scarlet and Gold lineup, offering a .526 (10-for-19)/.630/1.263 slash line, 12 runs scored, and 10 runs-batted-in (RBI) to the Griffins' 5-1 week against league rivals, Jefferson, Wilmington University, and defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Champions, Dominican College. The performance included the 150th hit of his collegiate career and earned him his second CACC Player of the Week award.

Using the program's recent 200th win as a springboard to success, Chestnut Hill College took a pair of CACC games from Jefferson in Wednesday's (April 11) league doubleheader; both by 7-3 finals. Craig recorded the 150th hit of his collegiate career with a seventh-inning, RBI triple that gave the Griffins a 4-3 lead over the Rams in game one. He later went 3-for-3 in game two, contributing to four of the Scarlet and Gold’s seven runs.

Friday's (April 13) CACC doubleheader was an exchange of blowouts with Chestnut Hill College winning the opener 15-5 and Wilmington University taking the nightcap 13-0. Craig and senior first baseman Matthew Owens (Cherry Hill, N.J.) both homered twice in the Griffins' game-one success, while sophomore second baseman Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.) and freshman right fielder Sam Barletta (Royersford, Pa.) recorded the Scarlet and Gold's only hits of game two. The Scarlet and Gold shortstop was 3-for-6 with two runs and 5 RBI in the opener.

On Saturday, April 14, Chestnut Hill College entertained all those in attendance at Latshaw-McCarthy Field with two thrilling comeback wins over the defending CACC champions from Dominican College.

With Magisterial District Judge Gregory L. Scott, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) Legislative Affairs Manager Rochelle Culbreath, and members of the Norristown Police Department on hand for today's Law Enforcement Appreciation and Alumni Day, the Griffins used a two-run seventh inning and a four-run eighth inning to cement a 9-6 comeback in the opener, then walked off with game two thanks to a clutch 10th-inning double from Owens, 12-11. Craig was no slouch in the twin bill, going 3-for-7 with five runs, an RBI, and three stolen bases (3-for-3).

The Chestnut Hill College baseball team continues their CACC season today, Tuesday, April 17, when they visit Jefferson for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
