Doherty Dons CACC Men’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll
New Haven, Conn. – (9/18/2018) – Senior forward Jason Doherty (Letterkenny Donegal, Ireland) totaled six points during last week’s league competitions versus Georgian Court University (GCU) and Concordia College (NY) to earn himself a mention on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll. Doherty scored a penalty kick goal (2 points) in the Griffins’ 5-3 loss to the Lions on Tuesday, September 11, but played an even larger role in a 4-1 triumph over the Clippers on Saturday, September 15, with a goal and two assists (4 points).
GCU welcomed Chestnut Hill College (3-3, 2-1) with three first half goals and outshot the Griffins 25-13 in an eventual 5-3 demise. Doherty scored the first Scarlet and Gold goal on a penalty kick conversion that broke the home team's opening scoring streak at 29:44 (3-1), senior midfielder Tales Domingues (Sao Paulo, Brazil) deposited a restart at 57:56 (4-2), and sophomore forward Andrew Thompson (Galloway, N.J.) rebounded a strike from junior defenseman Michael Roscioli (Turnersville, N.J.) at 85:17, but the Griffin goals were not enough to keep pace with the Lions.
Four days later, Doherty was a major factor in the Scarlet and Gold’s 4-1 victory over Concordia College (NY). The Clippers scored the first goal of the contest, but later found themselves outmatched as Chestnut Hill College secured a 2-1 halftime advantage before their chemistry fueled an overrun. Doherty answered the Clippers’ initial tally in the 12th minute, burying a restart at 11:48 (1-1). In a back-and-forth first half, the next Griffin goal came on a Doherty’s through ball that found sophomore forward Miguel Marra (Ossining, N.Y.) at 28:31 (2-1). The Scarlet and Gold took their 2-1 advantage into the break and promptly added to it in the second half as senior defenseman Tyler Johnson (Howell, N.J.) and Jason Burns (Reading, Pa.), pushed the ball down the far sideline before locating Marra for his second score of the affair at 57:12 (3-1). A little more than a minute later (58:36), the Griffins linked up again; this time, Marra centered the ball to Doherty, whose touch pass gave Burns a perfect setup from the left side, 4-1.
