Pitts Plays to CACC Weekly Honor Roll Rank against Devils

New Haven, Conn. - (12/11/2018) – With a career-high 22 points, freshman guard Trevonn Pitts (Wyncote, Pa.) led Chestnut Hill College in a 76-64 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to the University of the Sciences (USciences) on Saturday, December 8. Pitts was 8-of-13 (.615) from the floor and 4-of-8 (.500) at the free throw line, while recording six rebounds, four assists, and two steals in the affair. For his effort, Pitts was honored today, Monday, December 10, with his second CACC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll selection of the season

Pitts opened the contest with the first of his two three point baskets (2-of-4, .500) to give Chestnut Hill College (2-6, 0-1) the initial lead, 3-0 (18:46), over USciences (3-7, 1-1). The Griffins hit their next two shots from long range as well with senior guard Liban Awl (Manassas, Va.) and Pitts hitting back-to-back three point baskets to forge the Scarlet and Gold a 9-2 advantage with 16:10 left in the period. Chestnut Hill College extended their advantage to as many as 11 points, 16-5, four minutes later (12:02), but soon the Devils began to chip away at the Griffin lead, and eventually secured the advantage, 27-25, a couple minutes (2:08) before halftime. Fortunately, a put back from senior forward Tony Toplyn Jr. (Sicklerville, N.J.) tied the affair, 27-27 (1:08), before senior forward Ed McWade (Wildwood, N.J.) gave the Scarlet and Gold a 30-29 halftime edge with one of his three, three point baskets (3-of-4, .750).

In the second half, the contest remained deadlocked, 34-34, as late as 18:03, when an USciences’ three pointer gained them the 37-34 advantage they needed to separate. With the Griffins struggling, the Devils pushed the margin to 13 points, 55-42 (10:28), before the Scarlet and Gold issued a rally. Over the next five minutes (5:21), Pitts led Chestnut Hill College back within three points, 59-56, unfortunately, the Devils converted their closing three throw opportunities to keep their distance in a 12-point, 76-64, end.
