Wildgoose’s Fourth Straight Double-Double Draws CACC Weekly Honor Roll Recognition
New Haven, Conn. – (1/21/2019) – Despite a fourth consecutive double-double performance – 19 points and 11 rebounds – from senior forward Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.), Chestnut Hill College could not top Holy Family University on Wednesday, January 16 as the Tigers hit 9-of-18 (.500) first-half three pointers and converted in the clutch to survive for a 77-69 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win. Wildgoose was 6-of-11 (.545) from the floor and 7-of-8 (.875) from the free throw line, headlining Chestnut Hill College’s 40.4% (23-of-57) field goal performance and 81.8% (18-of-22) effort from the charity stripe for her fourth CACC Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll mention of the season. She also added an assist and a block to her double-double.
It was senior guard Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.) and freshman center Leah Miller (Punxsutawney, Pa.) who fueled Chestnut Hill College (3-12, 1-6) through the first quarter. But, Holy Family University (6-9, 4-3) took seven of their first 10 shots from behind the three point line and hit four of them (4-of-7, .571) to stay a step in the opening six minutes, 14-10 (4:00). In the second frame, Wildgoose and sophomore guard Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.) joined in the fight, helping the Griffins reduce the Tigers’ 23-14 first quarter edge to just five points, 45-40, at halftime.
Unfortunately, Holy Family University’s advantage returned to double digits early in the third quarter, 51-41 (9:01), and remained there until a Trossi layup at 3:20 cut the deficit to nine points, 58-49. By the end of the frame, the difference withered to just six points, 61-55, and with 7:53 remaining in the fourth quarter a Miller layup tied the affair at 61-61. The league rivals traded baskets over the next six minutes, allowing Trossi to tie again, 67-67, with just 2:15 left. However, the Tigers scored on their ensuing possession, 69-67 (1:54), and turned the Griffins over to own a four point lead, 71-67 (0:53), heading to the final minute. There, the Tigers hit the necessary free throws to escape the Scarlet and Gold’s final rallying efforts.
