Miller Emergence Garners CACC Weekly Honor Roll Recognition

Philadelphia, Pa. – (1/28/2019) – One of the main reasons for the Griffins’ recent success, freshman center Leah Miller (Punxsutawney, Pa.) averaged 13.0 points per game (PPG) and 12.5 rebounds per game (RPG) in Chestnut Hill College victories over league rivals, Wilmington University (W, 92-62 on 1/22) and Concordia College (NY) (W, 62-51 on 1/27) to earn her first career appearance on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll. After playing a supporting role in the Scarlet and Gold’s win over the Wildcats, Miller was featured in the Griffins’ weekend triumph over the Clippers with season-highs in points (14), rebounds (17), and blocks (3).

Chestnut Hill College (5-12, 3-6) earned a much-needed, CACC win at Wilmington University on Tuesday, January 22, as the Griffins conquered the Wildcats by a decisive 92-62 margin. The Scarlet and Gold placed five players in double figures, including three who finished with a dozen (12) points; Miller, senior guard Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.), freshman guard Morgan Orloski (Bethlehem, Pa.), who knocked down 3-of-6 (.500) three point shots in the first double digit performance of her collegiate career. Miller was one of the reasons the Griffins were able to mount their 44-33 halftime lead as she provided eight points and four rebounds in the first two frames. She finished the contest with a season and career-high 12 points, eight rebounds, an assist, and a steal.

Anchored by a 14-point, 17-rebound double-double from Miller, Chestnut Hill College weathered a lackluster shooting performance (20-of-63, .317) and 22 turnovers in Sunday’s (Jan. 27) 62-51 CACC victory over Concordia College (NY). Fortunately, the Scarlet and Gold defense gave the Clippers just as much trouble, holding the visitors to a 26.6% (21-of-79) field goal performance and limiting them to just eight free throws (5-of-8, .625). Miller hit 8-of-10 (.800) from the free throw line, headlining the Griffins’ 16-of-20 (.800) showing at the charity stripe. She was one of three Griffins to score in double figures, needing only three field goals (3-of-6, .500) and her eight free throws to score a season-high 14 points. She also reached season-highs in rebounds (17) and blocks (3), in addition to an assist and a steal.
