LeBeau’s Strong Start Lures CACC Baseball Rookie of the Week Award

New Haven, Conn. – (3/4/2019) – Freshman second baseman Luke LeBeau (Pittsfield, Mass.) was 4-for-10 with two doubles and three runs-batted-in (RBI) during the Griffins’ three-game series at Florida Memorial University to garner the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Rookie of the Week award. LeBeau knocked in a run in the seventh inning of each of the first two games versus the Lions, then –a long with junior third baseman Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.) – provided the Griffins’ runs-batted-in (RBI) in the third game; senior left fielder Franklin Ramirez (Reading, Pa.) crossed the plate in both cases thanks to a 2-for-2 afternoon and a leadoff walk in the third inning.

Chestnut Hill College (0-3) opened their 2019 season on Saturday, March 2, with a pair of seven-inning games at Florida Memorial University (10-8). There, the Lions defeated the Griffins in both ends of the doubleheader, 6-4 and 7-2. LeBeau went 3-for-6 in the twin bill, including a run-scoring double in the seventh inning of game one and a run-scoring single in the seventh inning of game two. Down 6-2 in the opener, the Scarlet and Gold looked to rally in their final at-bat. They scored a pair of runs on LeBeau's double and a ground out to second base from Uzzell. Unfortunately, the Griffin rally ended there, leaving the Lions to a 6-4 win. LeBeau went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a RBI.

In the second game, Florida Memorial University platted seven runs before Chestnut Hill College was able to push a runner across. The Griffins did so twice in their final at-bat as a one-out single from sophomore shortstop Jared Healey (Philadelphia, Pa.), a walk to senior designated hitter Eric Small (Downingtown, Pa.), and a two-out single to center field from LeBeau scored the first Scarlet and Gold run of the game, 7-1. The second was not far behind with Small scoring on an Uzzell single to right field, 7-2. But, the rally ended there with the Lions securing the win with a pop-out to second base. Sophomore first baseman Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) was 2-for-4, but LeBeau and Uzzell were the only Griffins to knock in runs.

Chestnut Hill College's three-game series at Florida Memorial University concluded on Sunday, March 3, with a nine-inning affair. The Lions put up big numbers in the third and fifth innings to overshadow the Griffins in an 11-3 final.

Florida Memorial University put their first run on the scoreboard in their first at-bat, 1-0, but Chestnut Hill College got it back in the top of the third inning with a leadoff walk to Ramirez and a two-out single to left field from LeBeau, 1-1.Unfortunately, the Lions roared back in their half of the third inning, plating five runs on just two hits, 6-1. They added three more tallies in the fifth inning to own a 9-1 lead before the Griffins answered with a run in both the sixth and seventh frame. LeBeau finished 1-for-4 with the third-inning RBI.
