Healey Appears On CACC Baseball Weekly Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. – (3/11/2019) – Sophomore shortstop Jared Healey (Philadelphia, Pa.) offered a .429 (9-for-21)/.429/.476 (AVG/OBP/SLG) slash line that produced five runs and two runs-batted-in (RBI) to Chestnut Hill College’s 1-5 week of play to earn an Honor Roll mention on the latest edition of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Weekly Report. Healey was 3-for-3 with two runs, an RBI, and the save in the Griffins’ 4-1 win over Stonehill College. He also recorded multiple hits in losses to Barry University (L, 1-4, 2-for-4, 2B) and Palm Beach Atlantic University (L, 6-7, 2-for-5, R, RBI).

Chestnut Hill College (1-8) earned their first win of the season with Monday's 4-1 victory over Stonehill College (5-4). The Griffins met the Skyhawks at Lynn University, there junior third baseman Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.) and Healey went a combined 7-for-7 and each knocked in one of the Scarlet and Gold's runs, while sophomore Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) scattered five hits and a run over five innings to earn his first collegiate win. The Griffins scored in each of their first two at-bats, getting a first-inning run on an error by the Stonehill College centerfielder and a second-inning run on an Uzzell run-scoring single to left field, 2-0. The Skyhawks got a run back in the bottom of the second inning, 2-1, but the Griffins erased it in the sixth inning thanks to a leadoff double to left field from senior first baseman Eric Gilham (Deptford, N.J.), a sacrifice bunt from sophomore centerfielder John Contoudis (Jenkintown, Pa.), and a Healey sacrifice fly, 3-1. The Scarlet and Gold added a ninth-inning run for good measure, using a leadoff single from Healey, a sacrifice bunt from freshman second baseman Luke LeBeau (Pittsfield, Mass.), and a sacrifice fly from senior left fielder Franklin Ramirez (Reading, Pa.), 4-1. In the bottom of the frame, Healey moved to the mound to record his first collegiate save; he struck out one while retiring the Skyhawks in order.

Tuesday’s action brought Chestnut Hill College to St. Thomas University (15-5), where the Bobcats served the Griffins a 12-1 loss. Contoudis recorded two of the Scarlet and Gold's three hits, including a run-scoring triple in the ninth inning. Junior Thomas Spratt (Doylestown, Pa.) was the pinch runner who scored on the Contoudis three-bagger, while Ramirez recorded the other Chestnut Hill College hit. Healey went 0-for-3, but reached base on a second-inning error by the Bobcat third baseman.

Chestnut Hill College visited Barry University (12-4) for Thursday, March 7, night's nine-inning affair, there the Buccaneers used a four-run second inning to endure the Griffins to a 4-1 end. The Scarlet and Gold cleared their run in the fifth inning, thanks to a leadoff single to right center from Contoudis, a Healey single through the right side, and a Ramirez sacrifice fly. Healey (2-for-4) and Uzzell (2-for-4) each recorded two of the Griffins' seven hits. Sophomore Billy Bethel (Yardley, Pa.) (0-2) pitched well in defeat, allowing only those four second-inning runs while striking out four in a complete-game effort.

After their fourth inning at-bat, Chestnut Hill College controlled a 6-2 advantage, but Palm Beach Atlantic University (8-11) outscored the Griffins 5-0 the rest of the way in a narrow 7-6 final. The winning run came across in walk-off fashion as the Sailfish used a one-out double, an intentional walk, a hit batsman, and a single to left field to cut their ninth-inning at-bat short. Healey was 1-for-4 and scored one of the Griffins’ three fourth inning runs; he led off that frame with a single to centerfield, and rounded the bases thanks to a two-out single from LeBeau, an error by the Sailfish third baseman, and a Dietz single to centerfield. Unfortunately, Palm Beach Atlantic University scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, 6-3, two in the fifth inning, 6-5, and on in the seventh inning to tie the contest at 6-6. The Sailfish won the affair in their final at-bat, manufacturing a one-out walk into their ninth-inning, game-winner, 7-6.

Chestnut Hill College concluded their spring trip to southern Florida with Saturday’s twin bill at Palm Beach Atlantic University. There, the Sailfish scored 16-6 and 12-2 victories over the Griffins. Healey had two hits (2-for-5) in the opener before finishing the day with three hits (3-for-7), two runs, and a RBI. In the opener, the Scarlet and Gold enjoyed their most success in the eighth inning, there a two-out, pinch hit walk from freshman Matt Mastrogiovanni (Sicklerville, N.J.), a Healey single down the left field line, a walk to Spratt, and a walk to Contoudis scored the first Griffin run, 14-3. A walk to freshman designated hitter Dutch Reardon (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) brought home another run, 14-4, and a balk a third, unfortunately the Sailfish outscored the Griffins 2-1 in the final frame, 16-6.
