Howell and Jones Honored With Weekly CACC Player and Rookie/Goalkeeper Titles

Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (3/11/2019) –
Sophomore attack J.R. Howell (East Meadow, N.Y.) recorded a team-high nine points (3 goals, 6 assists) in a 22-4 victory over Davis & Elkins College on Saturday, March 9, after offering two goals and an assist in a narrow 13-12 loss to the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) on Wednesday, March 6, to give himself a 12-point week and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week award. His teammate, freshman Austin Jones (Courtice, Ontario) was also recognized, earning both the CACC Rookie and a share of the Goalkeeper of the Week awards with 15 saves, five ground balls, and caused turnover during a 1-1 week.

Wednesday afternoon's action brought Chestnut Hill College (3-2) to NYIT (1-4), where a highly-competitive affair climaxed in the closing minutes. The Bears used a strong second period to lead the Griffins to a 7-4 halftime spread, but the Scarlet and Gold scored the last goal of the third frame and the first two of the final to trail their host by a single goal, 11-10, heading to the last three minutes. There, the opponents traded goals twice, leaving Chestnut Hill College a goal shy at game's end, 13-12. Sophomore midfielder Ben Revak (Aston, Pa.) was one of three Griffins to score three goals in the contest; all three came in the second half, before he located senior attack Casey Brown (Havre de Grace, Md.) for the Scarlet and Gold final tally (13-12, 0:13). Howell finished with two goals, an assist, a ground ball, and a caused turnover, while Jones (2-2) recorded six saves and four ground balls in the first two quarters (30:00).

Chestnut Hill College's fluid ball movement was the key component to Saturday's 22-4 victory over Davis & Elkins College as 11 different Griffins scored those 22 goals with 16 assists. Sophomore attack Carson Rees (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) was the high scorer with five goals, while Howell recorded a team-high nine points (3 goals, 6 assists) in addition to four ground balls and three caused turnovers. All four Scarlet and Gold goalkeepers saw time, but Jones earned the win (3-2) with nine first-half saves.
