Horner and Irvin Earn CACC Honor Roll Recognition

New Haven, Conn. – (3/18/2019) – Sophomore centerfielder Devon Horner (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) was 7-for-10 (.700) with six runs and three runs-batted-in (RBI) in the last three games of Chestnut Hill College’s 1-3 week versus East Stroudsburg University and Felician University. Meanwhile, senior Hunter Irvin (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) tossed a three-hit shutout in the Griffins’ game-two, five-inning, 8-0 win over the Golden Falcons. For their efforts, both were recognized on this week’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Honor Roll.

Poor field conditions on Thursday, March 14, sent Chestnut Hill College (5-7, 1-1) to the Maplezone Sports Institute in Aston, Pennsylvania, for an afternoon doubleheader with East Stroudsburg University. Junior pitcher Kaley Wise (Hamilton, N.J.) dueled with freshman pitcher Mikayla Pourby (Binghamton, N.Y.) in the opener as the Warriors stole a 1-0 victory before sweeping the doubleheader with a 6-2 win in the latter affair. Four different Griffins recorded a hit apiece in the first game. In the second game, both Horner and senior left fielder Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.) (2-for-3, R, RBI) recorded multiple hits; the former was 2-for-4 with a third-inning run.

Chestnut Hill College split league wins in Saturday's CACC doubleheader home opener, dropping the first game 10-5, before earning a game two 8-0, five-inning victory on Irvin’s arm. She limited the Golden Falcons to a one-out single in the second inning and a pair of leadoff singles in the third and fifth innings. Horner was 5-for-6 in the twin bill with five runs and three RBI. In game one, she singled in a run in the second inning and led off the fifth inning with a single; she scored in both cases to contribute to three of the Griffins’ five runs. In game two, Horner supported Irvin’s victory with a one-out single in the first inning, a two-run triple in the second inning, and a one-out double in the fourth inning. Again, she scored in all three scenarios to have a hand in five of the Griffins’ eight runs.
