Bethel Wins Warrant CACC Baseball Pitcher of the Week Award

New Haven, Conn. – (4/3/2019) – Sophomore Billy Bethel (Yardley, Pa.) earned two wins last week with a 3.27 earned run average over 11.0 innings of work versus league rivals, #22 Wilmington University and Post University to garner the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Pitcher of the Week award. Bethel earned his second win of the season with a complete game effort in Chestnut Hill College’s 4-3 win over the Wildcats on Tuesday, March 26. He then earned his third win as the benefactor of a 7-6 walk-off win over Post University on Saturday, March 30. Bethel (3-3) allowed four earned runs on nine hits and three walks, while striking out six in the two appearances.

Chestnut Hill College (10-16, 5-7) runs in the third (1-0), fourth (2-0), and seventh (4-0) innings provided enough coverage for Bethel to secure a 4-3 victory over the Wildcats in the opener of Tuesday's CACC doubleheader. The Scarlet and Gold scored their first run of the afternoon in the third inning thanks to a one-out double from sophomore centerfielder John Contoudis (Jenkintown, Pa.) and a two-out single through the middle from sophomore first baseman Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.), 1-0. They added a second run in the fourth inning with a one-out single from senior left fielder Franklin Ramirez (Reading, Pa.), a stolen base, a double down the left field line from junior third baseman Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.), 2-0. In the seventh inning, three hits and a pair of Wilmington University errors produced two more Griffins runs, 4-0; just enough for Bethel to outlast the Wildcats, who score three times in their final three at-bats, 4-3.

In the second game versus Post University on Saturday, March 30, the Eagles scored two runs in the first inning (2-0), two runs in the second inning (4-0), and a run apiece in both the fourth (5-2) and sixth innings (6-6). But, Chestnut Hill College matched their pace with a run in the first inning (2-1), a run in the third inning (4-2), and four runs in the fourth inning (6-6) to leave the contest tied at 6-6 heading to the seventh frame. There, the Eagles went scoreless before a pair of one-out singles from senior catcher Eric Gilham (Deptford, N.J.) and Dietz set the table for Healey. Freshman Jonas Baker (Delran, N.J.) then replaced Gilham at third base and scored easily on Healey’s single to left field, 7-6.
