North Wales, PA – (3/17/2010) – Senior pitcher Ryan Weber (Philadelphia, Pa.) threw four innings of scoreless baseball to lead Chestnut Hill College to an 8-1 win over Bloomsburg University.
The Griffins scored at least a run in every inning but the fifth, before the contest was called due to darkness. Sophomore second baseman Jesse Daywalt (Phoenixville, Pa.) sparked the Griffin lineup with a 3-for-3 evening in the lead-off spot.
Daywalt opened the contest with the first of three singles. He later scored on a grounder to third to get the Griffins on the scoreboard. Chestnut Hill College (2-5) plated five more runs over the next three innings while Weber baffled the Huskies' lineup. Weber earned the win (2-0), allowing only an unearned run. He gave up three hits and a walk over six innings, while striking out four. Weber gave way to freshman Rudy Beherns (Wallingford, Conn.) who closed the contest with a scoreless inning of work, as the contest was called before the end of the sixth inning due to darkness.
Daywalt got the offense rolling with three singles and a walk. He also knocked two runs. Three other Griffins recorded multiple hits in the affair. Junior right fielder Dan Etherton (Princeton, N.J.), freshman first baseman Andrew Lawrence (Woodstown, N.J.), and junior catcher Bryan Henry (Columbus, N.J.) each had two hits. Etherton and Lawrence also plated two runs apiece.
The baseball team opens their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) this Saturday, March 20, with a doubleheader at Bloomfield College. First pitch is schedule for 12:00 p.m.
