North Wales, PA – (3/21/2010) – Kutztown University got on Chestnut Hill College early in this afternoon's baseball contest. The Golden Bears held an 8-0 advantage after three innings, before defeating the Griffins 14-5. Junior catcher Bryan Henry (Columbus, NJ) hit his first homerun of the season, with a three-run shot to left center in the sixth inning.

The Golden Bears wore out three Chestnut Hill College (4-6) pitchers in the first three innings, before the Griffins got four innings of relief from freshmen pitcher Jordan Hofferman (Elkins Park, PA) and John Bernhardt (Lafayette Hill, PA). Meanwhile, freshman pitcher Tom Neely (Philadelphia, PA) held the Griffins hitless through the first, three innings. Junior right fielder Dan Etherton (Princeton, NJ) recorded a two-out double in the fourth inning to give the Griffins their first base runner of the afternoon. However, the Griffins did not score until the sixth inning when a three-run homerun from Henry helped the Griffins to a four-run inning. Unfortunately, the Golden Bears outscored the Griffins 5-1 over the final three innings to collect the 14-5 victory.

Neely collected the win for Kutztown University (12-4), he allowed one hit and struck out two in five innings of work. Junior pitcher Justin Wiercinski (Hatboro, PA) took the loss (0-1) for Chestnut Hill College. Henry was one of six Griffins to record a hit in the contest. He has drove in nine runs through ten games this season.

The baseball team visits Alvernia College tomorrow, Monday, March 22, for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
