Lantana, FL – (3/9/2010) – After a narrow 1-0 loss to East Stroudsburg University, Chestnut Hill College topped the University of the Sciences 9-3 in a non-conference contest to collect their first win of the 2010 season. A Warrior sacrifice fly in the third inning was the only score in the day's first contest. The Griffins recovered to defeat the Devils 9-3 in the afternoon. Sophomore second baseman Jesse Daywalt (Phoenixville, PA) and junior designated hitter Bryan Henry (Columbus, NJ) each recorded four hits against the Devils.
The Griffins loaded the bases twice in the first, three innings against the University of the Sciences (0-1). Sophomore centerfielder Andrew Koziol (Wilmington, DE) plated the Griffins' first run with a fielder's choice in the top of the second inning while Henry's single in the top of the third inning scored two more, 3-0. Freshman catcher Timothy DiMonte (Downingtown, PA) led off the fourth inning with a double and later scored on a Koziol ground out extending the Griffin lead to 4-0. The Devils got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning with two runs off a single from senior outfielder Dustin Gill (Hanover, Pa.), but the Griffins scored one more run in the sixth, two in the seventh, and two in the ninth to win the contest by a 9-3 final. In today's first contest, East Stroudsburg University (7-4) took a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the third inning on a sacrifice fly from junior third baseman Jason Kelmer (Cherry Hill, N.J.). Unfortunately, the following batter singled and eventually reached third on back-to-back wild pitches from freshman Rudy Beherns (Wallingford, CT). Kelmer's sacrifice fly came next giving the Warriors the 1-0 lead. Chestnut Hill College (1-3) had a chance to tie the contest in the top of the fifth inning with consecutive two-out, base hits. Daywalt singled and sophomore left fielder Alex Latchum (Warrington, PA) doubled to place runners in scoring position, but senior pitcher Christian Saveri (Bethlehem, Pa.) ended the threat with a strikeout en route to his first win of the season (1-1). Saveri allowed five hits and two walks while striking out seven for the Warriors while freshman Colin Kelly (Williamsport, Pa.) collected a save. Behrens took the loss (0-1) for the Griffins. He allowed one run on six hits and two walks while striking out three in six innings of work. Latchum led the Griffins offensively with two hits.
