North Wales, PA – (4/19/2010) – Seven homeruns powered East Stroudsburg to a 22-1 win in the opener of this afternoon's doubleheader. A homerun from sophomore third baseman Peter Kidd (New York, NY) accounted for the only Chestnut Hill College run. The Warriors took the second game 8-2 to complete the sweep. Sophomore left fielder Alex Latchum (Warrington, PA) led the Griffin offense with four hits in the twin bill.
East Stroudsburg University (24-16) started hitting in their very first at-bat and they would lead Chestnut Hill College (12-16) 19-0 heading to the bottom of the fifth inning in today's opener. With two down, Kidd connected to left centerfield for his first collegiate homerun. It broke-up the shutout, but it was the only run the Griffins could muster in a 22-1 loss. Latchum singled in the first inning, fourth inning, and sixth inning for a 3-for-3 performance at the plate.
The Warriors belted two more homeruns in the first inning of game two and they led 5-0 after two innings, to once again get the jump on the Griffins. Latchum made it 5-1 in the bottom of the third inning with his fourth single of the afternoon. Unfortunately, the Warriors scored a run in the fourth and fifth innings to make the deficit 7-1, before a single from sophomore second baseman Jesse Daywalt (Phoenixville, PA) made it 7-2 after five. The Warriors added one more run in the sixth inning to make it 8-2; the Griffin bullpen held the Spartans to one earned run on four hits and two walks over the final five innings.
The baseball team resumes their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at Wilmington University on Wednesday, April 21.
