Philadelphia, PA – (10/11/2011) – Chestnut Hill College could not get comfortable against Dominican College, who won this evening's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-16). Sophomore outside hitter Alex DePalma (Shillington, PA) and freshman setter Sidney Chukuntarod (San Francisco, CA) headlined the Griffin effort; DePalma scoring 13 kills and making ten digs, and Chukuntarod providing 26 assists and five aces.

DePalma floored eight kills in the opening set, but after holding an early lead Chestnut Hill College (9-14, 4-7) quickly fell behind Dominican College (12-10, 8-3). The Lady Chargers fought back behind a balanced team effort, hitting .333 (14K-3E-33TA), recording four aces, and making four blocks to win the set 25-20. The Lady Chargers ran away at the start of the second set, 12-4, but the Griffins were able to rally behind junior middle hitter Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA) to force a Lady Charger timeout at 15-12. Unfortunately, the refocused Lady Chargers managed to regain the momentum for a 25-22 win. Junior outside hitter Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) powered the Lady Chargers to a 25-16 win in the third set with six kills in the frame.

Fiorvanti led the Lady Chargers 12 kills and 11 digs. Offensive support came from junior setter Whitney Ranger (Ventura, CA), who supplied 32 assists and nine kills, and freshman middle blocker Kayla Dexter (Selah, WA), who recorded eight kills and was one of two Lady Chargers to scored three aces. Defensively, she made three blocks as did sophomore right side Randi Garrett (Rockledge, FL). Junior libero Jordyn Fuller (Keller, TX) made 17 digs.

DePalma, Chukuntarod, and Benson took turns headlining the Griffin effort, but it not enough to earn the CACC win. Benson totaled six kills, and three blocks. Helping on the defensive side, junior libero Liz DiGregorio (Conshohocken, PA) made 14 digs.

The women's volleyball team travels to Goldey-Beacom College on Thursday, October 13, for their next CACC match. Opening serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
