Cougars Capture Victory From Griffins

Philadelphia, PA – (10/29/2011) – Caldwell College rallied to take tonight's first set from Chestnut Hill College, 25-20. The Cougars won the following two sets 25-19 and 25-17 for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory. Prior to the affair, the Griffins recognized their graduating class for their contributions to the women's volleyball program.
 
Chestnut Hill College (13-17, 8-10) led early, but Caldwell College (22-4, 17-1) slowly worked their way back into the opening set before collecting a 25-20 win. Junior outside hitter Susan McDonough (Saline, MI) powered the Cougars with six kills in the set. The momentum followed the Cougars into the second set, as they pushed their lead to 2-0 with 25-19 win. Junior right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ) and McDonough each killed five balls in the frame. In the third set, the Cougars set the tempo once more and led the Griffins to a 25-17 final and the eventual 3-0 match-victory.
 
McDonough led the Cougars with 12 kills and 19 digs. She was supported by 38 assists and 15 digs from senior setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH) and 11 kills from Mosher. Freshman libero Jaclyn Del Cid (Bogota, NJ) provided 15 digs.
 
Junior middle hitter Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA) was the Griffins lead performer with seven kills and two blocks. Freshman setter Sidney Chukuntarod (San Francisco, CA) directed the offense with 24 assists, conversely, sophomore outside hitter Alex DePalma (Shillington, PA) and junior libero Liz DiGregorio (Conshohocken, PA) combined for 32 digs to lead the Griffin defense. As part of annual Senior Day festivities, defensive specialist Alyssa Miller (East Stroudsburg, PA), outside hitter Megan Nadler (West Deptford, NJ), and right side Katherine Tohanczyn (Hatfield, PA) were recognized for their contributions to the women's volleyball program. Miller has been a valuable defensive asset for the Griffins, who currently ranks 7th all-time in digs (550). Nadler is a valued reserve whose dedication to the team has inspired many teammates throughout her collegiate career. Tohanczyn is a two-year captain whose versatility has been invaluable to the Griffins and has placed her eighth all-time in kills (208) and third in assists (390).
 
The women's volleyball team will complete the 2011 regular season with a 7:00 p.m. CACC match at Holy Family University on Tuesday, November 1.
