Marauders Outmaneuver Women’s Volleyball

Millersville, PA – (10/4/2011) – Everything came together for Chestnut Hill College in the third set of this evening's match at Millersville University, as the Griffins hit .385 (15K-5E-26TA) as a team and played strong defensively to score a 25-10 win. Unfortunately the Marauders carried a 2-0 lead into the third set and managed to defeat the Griffins 3-1 (25-16, 25-19, 10-25, 25-16) with a 25-16 win in the fourth set. Sophomore outside hitter Alex DePalma (Shillington, PA) was the Griffins top performer with her 13th double-double performance of the season.
 
Freshman outside hitter Kate Lesinski (Schwenksville, PA) was the main benefactor of a two-headed offense, as sophomore setters Jessica Franz (New Freedom, PA) and Katie Pisano (Exton, PA) combined for 46 assists. The duo propelled Lesinski to 15 kills and the Marauders to a 2-0 lead with wins of 25-16 and 25-19 in the first, two sets. Defensively, senior outside hitter Allison Huss (Coatesville, PA) and junior defensive specialist Sue Caramanico (Springfield, PA) led the Marauders with 18 and ten digs, respectively.
 
DePalma scored 18 kills on a .375 (18K-3E-40TA) hitting percentage and hustled to 15 digs to lead Chestnut Hill College (8-12). She also recorded two assists, an ace, and two blocks. Freshman setter Sidney Chukuntarod (San Francisco, CA) and sophomore middle hitter Mary Markowski (Parkton, MD) supported DePalma on both sides of the net. Chukuntarod supplied 35 assists, nine digs, and a block, while Markowski offered ten kills and two blocks. Freshman right side Katie Schock (Allentown, PA) made five blocks.
 
The women's volleyball team returns to their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a 7:00 p.m. home match against Goldey-Beacom College on Thursday, October 6.
