Weber and Daywalt Help Griffins To CACC Split at Caldwell College

Caldwell, NJ – (3/28/2011) – Chestnut Hill College remained even in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a split in this afternoon's doubleheader at Caldwell College. The Cougars scored early and held on for a 4-3 win in the opener, before the Griffins forced a draw with a 7-4 victory in game two. Senior pitcher Ryan Weber (Philadelphia, PA) earned his second win (2-1) with another quality start while junior second baseman Jesse Daywalt (Phoenixville, PA) recorded two triples and a double.
 
After Caldwell College (8-9, 3-1) held on for a game-one victory, each team platted two runs in the first inning of game two, 2-2. Chestnut Hill College (6-12, 2-2) separated in the fifth inning with Daywalt scoring on a shortstop fielding error, after his first triple of the affair, 3-2. The Griffins added three more runs in the seventh inning with Daywalt knocking in a run on a double to centerfield and more two runs scoring on an error by the Cougar second baseman, 6-2. The Cougars scored twice in the eighth inning, 6-4, but the rally was silenced as the Griffins netted another insurance rally in their final at-bat, 7-4. Weber improved to 2-1 with the win; he allowed two runs on eight hits while striking out three in seven innings.
 
The Cougars controlled a 4-0 advantage after six innings of the opener. An eighth inning, lead-off homerun from senior catcher Andrew Donofry (Hatboro, PA) put the Griffins on the scoreboard, 4-1 and they score twice more on a ninth-inning Cougar error, but the comeback was cut short with a base runner caught stealing, and a game-ending ground out.
 
The baseball team continues their CACC schedule at Philadelphia University with a 3:00 p.m. contest on Friday, April 1.
