Griffins Rock Rams For CACC Win

Philadelphia, PA – (4/14/2011) – Chestnut Hill College erupted for a 14-4 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) triumph over Philadelphia University this afternoon, breaking a four-game league losing streak. Juniors, second baseman Jesse Daywalt (Phoenixville, PA) and centerfielder Eric Blood (Perkasie, PA) each recorded three hits; Blood knocked in three runs.
 
Chestnut Hill College (9-17, 5-6) got the bats started early with four runs in their first, three at-bats. After drawing a walk, Daywalt scored on a two-out wild pitch in the first inning, 1-0. Two more Griffins scored in the second inning; the first on an error by the Philadelphia University (4-22, 2-9) third baseman and the second on a Blood double, 3-0. Another run in the third inning, 4-0, and homeruns from senior catcher Andrew Donofry (Hatboro, PA) and junior shortstop P.J. Kidd (New York, NY) in the sixth inning made it 7-0 Griffins. The Rams got to senior pitcher Ryan Weber (Philadelphia, PA) in the bottom of the sixth, totaling three runs before their second out thanks to a two-run double from junior right fielder Joe Thayres (Thorofare, NJ), 7-3. Junior pitcher Bob Hopkins (Philadelphia, PA) relieved Weber and calmed the Ram bats for a 3.2-inning save, while a seven-run ninth inning cemented the Griffins victory, 14-4. Weber earned his third win of the season (3-2). He struck out four while allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk.
 
The baseball team continues CACC play with a 5:00 p.m. doubleheader at Felician College on Sunday, April 17.
