Box Score 1
Norristown, PA – (4/6/2011) – Off the bat, Chestnut Hill College owned a 3-0 lead in this afternoon's opener with the University of the Sciences (USciences). Unfortunately, sloppy defense and the Devil bats owned the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader with victories of 10-4 and 10-0. Junior second baseman Jesse Daywalt (Phoenixville, PA) led the Griffins with three hits in the twin bill.

Junior left fielder Alex Latchum (Warrington, PA) led off game one with a single to left field, stole second base, advanced to third base on a Daywalt single, scored on a University of the Sciences (8-15, 6-5) error, and all was well for Chestnut Hill College (8-15, 4-4), 1-0. After an out, Daywalt scored on a wild pitch and a grounder to first base scored senior first baseman Mike Knipe (Sellersville, PA), 3-0. Unfortunately, the defense was not up to snuff as 13 hits and three errors allowed USciences to recover for the 10-4 win. Sophomore pitcher Dan McMahon (Millville, NJ) dealed for the Devils, whose defense was just as poor; he allowed no earned runs in the complete-game effort. Senior pitcher Ryan Weber (Philadelphia, PA) took the loss (2-2) allowing four earned runs on ten hits and two walks. He struck out four in seven innings of work.

Senior right fielder George Kochu (Pottstown, PA) led the Griffins in the second game with two hits. They totaled seven hits in all, but could not muster a run against Devils. Supported by a 17-hit effort, junior pitcher Luke Peyton (Haddonfield, NJ) earned the win for the Devils. He held the Griffins to five hits and three walks in the first, seven innings, while striking out five. Senior pitcher Adam Kissinger (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ) completed the shutout with two innings of scoreless relief.

The baseball team continues CACC play with a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader at Dominican College on Saturday, April 9.
